Chapter 9 in the third assessment report of the IPCC, Climate Change 2001: The Scientific Basis gives the projections of future climate change.

Here are some of the qualitative projections of the consequences of increased greenhouse gases which IPCC deems virtually certain to very likely because all of the models agree on them:

• The near surface atmosphere and troposphere warms and the stratosphere cools.
• The land warms faster and more than the oceans.
• There is greater relative warming at higher latitudes.
• The temperature increase is smaller in the North Atlantic and the circumpolar Souther Ocean.
• The Northern Hemisphere snow cover and sea-ice decreases.
• The global averages of atmospheric water vapor content, evaporation and precipitation will increase.
• Most tropical areas will have increased precipitation, most sub-tropical areas will have decreased average precipitation. At high latitudes average precipitation will increase.
• The intensity of rainfall events will increase.
• There will be increases in the maximum and minimum temperatures, but there may be a decrease in the diurnal temperature range.

There are other less certain forecasts which IPCC nevertheless deems very likely.
